In my mind, empathic broadcasts can be divided into a few rough areas that may make them easier for some to understand and learn how to do. So what is empathy as defined by the psionic community? It’s the ability to project or receive a particular emotion without the normal cues (such as body language, tone of voice etc). This ability can allow an empath to affect the emotional state of another or obtain an interpretation (which is often felt) of what sender is feeling. This needs to be differentiated from psychological empathy which is closer to sympathy and not psychic in nature.
This article deals with “types” of empathic broadcasts and how you might go about learning how to do this. I’m not going to lecture anyone in this article on the pros and cons of learning empathy as I’m sure you’ve probably heard them before (if you haven’t you should read up on it). Both the benefits and disadvantages associated with empathy can be significant, so have a careful think about it before going ahead. Also before starting to practice, make sure you are able to ground, center, recognise signatures and shield.
This is one of the most common types of empathic broadcasting. People who would not consider themselves psychic are still capable of sending their emotions into the general area with varying strength depending on their innate ability and state of mind. Don’t make the mistake of thinking that only psions are capable of strong emotional broadcasts, in certain circumstances I have come across non-psions able to send their emotional state strongly enough to cause an overload. Therefore this type of broadcast is responsible for most of the general “noise” experienced by empaths and probably accounts for the majority of what you will pick up off people without consciously looking if you are sensitive enough. It’s unusual in that this type of send appears to be affected reasonably strongly by distance. The way I’ve always imagined it to be, is like an incandescent light globe. Close by the light source is very strong, however since the light is not focused in any particular way it’ll spread out in all directions and diffuse causing a noticeable a drop in power (brightness) as you travel away from it. (I don’t mean that psi behaves like light, this is just an analogy that made sense to me when I was thinking these things through). The unfocused nature of this broadcast is why empaths in overload are often recommended to leave the area if possible. Distancing yourself from the source of the broadcast can often allow the “noise” level to drop to a level where you can successfully repair defences if having trouble otherwise.
So how do you do it? The first thing is too pick an emotion to send. Before attempting to send, take the time to clear and calm your mind, quietening all the thoughts that are usually buzzing around. One way to do this can be as simple as relaxing and focus on counting backwards from 10. Next generate the chosen emotion however suits you; bring it to the surface spontaneously, think of a memory, a piece of music, what ever you like. Its important to be very clear in your mind exactly what it is that you want to send or it will become mixed in with other thoughts and emotions, interfering with the clarity of the send and making it more difficult to interperete or giving a different result to what was intended. Focus on the emotion so that you’re feeling it fairly strongly. Once you’ve done this, there are a few methods that can be used to broadcast the emotion. One is where you don’t think about it, you “just do it”. Know that the emotion will spread outward and allow it to. If you’re a natural or perhaps if you’ve been doing this for a while, you may well use something similar to this, (sometimes stopping it from happening is more of a problem Eye-wink ). A second method can involve using visualisation. Feel the emotion spreading out away from you in a ripple like effect, (like the pattern on the surface of the water if a stone is dropped into it). Put energy behind the projection of the emotion and know that it will travel outward to where you want it to go. It’s beneficial to be able to broadcast an emotion without overwhelming yourself with it. This is tricky to explain but can be done by taking the emotion, condensing and concentrating it, then projecting it outwards with energy behind it and the intent of it being amplified as it travels away from you.
For the sake of explaining this in the article, I’m going to place the “focused” or “targeted” type broadcasts into three main categories: Links, Group broadcasts and individuals.
Links may be created deliberately or unconsciously between 2 individuals and can have the effect of cutting down on outside interference and increasing the targeting accuracy. Emotions received over a link do not appear affected by distance. Although they can be useful, links are not required for empathy. More detailed information on links are covered in other papers and are beyond the scope of this article.
Group broadcasts are semi-focused projections made over a particular area or group of people. I call them semi-focused in that they are aimed in a particular direction, however specific signatures are not targeted. These are partially affected by distance, in that if you move outside the targeted area of broadcast the signal level will drop.
The concept behind a group broadcast is similar to an unfocused one, however instead of letting the emotion ripple out in all directions it is directed and confined to a particular direction or area. Again a “just do it” method can be used or assisted with a visualisation such as feeling the ripples of the emotion spread into the targeted area only or picturing something like a spotlight lighting up the area.
This is one of the most focused of the empathic broadcasts and are used to send to particular individuals. Distance as far as known does not appear to have any real effect on the strength of a send. Following a light analogy, think of a tightly focused beam of light such as a laser, able to travel over a long distance with little change.
To send to a particular person you need to be able to recognise signatures (otherwise known as “sigs” or “psi sigs”). Every person has a unique mental signature which allows you to find them and target the send. (A more detailed description of signatures can be found in Hech’s “Sig Alteration Manual” and Lidless_I’s “Psionic Signatures article”). Locating the person to receive an empathic send is essentially the same as for any other number of psi abilities such as telepathy, scanning and sending constructs. A common way for people to find a signature is to clear their mind, then concentrate on something associated with the receiver (often their name can work well). Once you recognise the sig, hold it in your mind and concentrate on reaching out with your awareness to find the source of the targeted signature. The emotion can then be sent directly to this place. It’s important when doing this that you don’t visualise the receiver to be a long way away. As I was saying before, distance should not appear affect these kinds of sends. I’ve lost track of the number of times I’ve seen someone going really well with a practice until they ask where the people they’re practicing with are from. It’s amazing to see just how dramatically the on target results can drop if someone decides (even unconsciously) that a particular person lives too far away and creates a mental block regarding it. It’s as easy to reach a person who only lives a block away, as it is to reach a person living on the other side of the world. Keep that in mind and you’ll be fine J.
Constructs can be used to generate an emotional broadcast independent of the original creator. The most basic of these would be a construct programmed to generate short, simple, empathic send. (Think of something like a “ping” as described with telepathy). To be able to make one of these constructs, the ability to create a stable shelled psiball and some extra programming ability is needed. There are many ways to make a construct capable of doing this, this is an example of a method I often use.
First create your psiball (reference the many good articles on this site for a “how to” if unsure). Make the psiball reasonably energy dense. The psiball needs to be shelled however the shell needs to be slightly modified compared to normal. A normal shell for a simple psiball might have a programming along the lines of to keep all the energy within contained, allow you to add extra energy if required and maintain the sphere shape. The shell in this case still needs this programming, however it also needs to be linked to a separate “band” of programming that you will add to the construct.
Next generate the emotion you want to send. Add further energy to the psiball but keep it separate from the energy already contained. The way I generally do this is to give the energy a different colour to the one you’ve assigned the psiball, and visualise it forming a band around the middle of the construct, just under the inner suface of the shell. As the energy is added, feel the emotion you have chosen, sinking into this energy, and becoming concentrated there. Often visualising the energy you’re adding as a colour that represents that emotion to you can help make the programming stick as well. Program this “band” of programming to draw on the energy stored in the psiball to carry out the broadcast when triggered. Also as the energy is being added, the intention of how it is going to be broadcast and a trigger needs to be built in. So if your intention is that the emotion will be broadcast if the psiball is scanned by someone, you could program this intention into it, assisted by visualisation if that makes it easier. (ie: build up the visualisation of the construct being scanned and the response being for the “band” to draw energy from the psiball and release it as a short empathic broadcast in the direction of the scanner). You don’t have to use that particular trigger, its just one example. Other triggers could include a command by you to start sending or to broadcast when it arrives at the receiver’s destination. I’m sure there are many possibilities.
